APPA has drafted and will soon publish our Professional Practice Guidelines (PPGs), which are designed to address the evolving practice of psychedelic-assisted therapy. They are the first comprehensive field consensus-based guidelines for mental health providers practicing psychedelic-assisted therapy. The process of drafting these guidelines generated expert debate and ultimately consensus around professional standards for this treatment modality. These guidelines aim to describe the minimum standards of care as informed by existing clinical research and expert consensus in this area.
The document was initially drafted by the Research and Training group (below), and reviewed by APPA’s working groups.

The Ethics working group will conduct a review of the dispersed ethical considerations and guidelines for treatment already in existence. They will then assess, synthesize, and propose an ethical code to govern the practitioners of the professional association. In coordination with the Accountability working group, the Ethics group will assist in breathing life into the ethical guidelines, operationalizing how these guidelines will be upheld in the field, and designing the process for preventative action and intervention when ethical violations occur. This group will also function as a consultant group on guidelines for industrial/corporate relationships, organization function, and training. Internal to the working group ecosystem, they will provide oversight, review, and consultation regarding all other working group efforts.
